Out & About in the Area of the Holiday Villa
Turkey, where east meets west, is a diverse country of 70m people roughly three times the size of the UK. It has a rich and colourful history going back to the beginning of civilisation, and the food is fantastic.
The Bodrum Peninsular enjoys blue skies and guaranteed sun from April to October with an average temperature of 30 degrees. The Bodrum Breeze keeps the heat comfortable and humidity is much less than in the UK on hot days.
The people are warm, friendly and helpful and in our experience nothing is too much trouble.

The Bodrum Peninsula, which is the area in which the rental villa is situated, is an area of
stunning diversity. Situated on the south west coast of Turkey where the Aegean meets the
Mediterranean, it is surrounded by many small islands which are accessible by traditional boats (Gulets).
Bodrum is the principal resort and has something to offer everybody, day-time and night-time. There are many
fishing villages to explore. Gumusluk is renowned for its
many excellent fish restaurants along the picturesque waterfront. Bitez
offers a great beach along with dozens of restaurants. Yalikavak
in the north of the Peninsular offers a sophisticated range of shopping opportunities, with a pedestrian free town center and
many traditional restaurants.
TurgutreisTurgutreis, at the tip of the Peninsular, is approx. ten minutes drive away. It is a thriving town with a colourful port and Marina and many picturesque alleyways to explore. The largest market on the Peninsular takes place here every Saturday. Turgutreis is reachable by foot along the beach. It takes a leisurely 35mins walk or paddle, at the waters edge.Historical SightsTurkey has two of the seven ancient wonders of the world. The Mausoleum is on the doorstep in Bodrum and the other, Ephesus is a day trip away. Just 10 minutes up the road from the villa is Gumusluk, once the harbour of ancient Myndos, is renowned for its many excellent fish restaurants along the picturesque waterfront. Sunken ruins and a causeway to Rabbit Island offer points of interest after a long lazy lunch.Dining OutTurkey has an exciting and varied cuisine for both meat eaters and vegetarians. From the local and regional to the more international cuisine the food is always of the freshest quality. Villages such as Gumusluk 10 mins from Kadikalesi are renowned for their fish restaurants and romantic setting, and on the same stretch of beach there is very high quality home cooked food from a simple place called "Garlic and Onion". The closest place to eat is the Turkish pizza (Pide) restaurant set back from the road on the right just before the taxi rank. The menu is limited, but the yellow cheese and sausage pide is great, and it is very cheap. Dinner for two with beer for less than £10. Turn left at the Mosque in the village and walk to the sea - there are three restaurants; the first one on the right is very good,
if a little expensive (for Turkey). The meze (cold dishes) are about a pound each. The choice is excellent and the tastes superb.
It's the fish dishes that push the price up. Three course with drinks, about £20 per head. |
